Description
RABIES VACCINE is a medication used to prevent rabies in people who have been exposed to the virus. Rabies is a serious and often fatal infection of the nervous system that is caused by a virus that is primarily spread through the bite or scratch of an infected animal.
Direction of Use: The rabies vaccine is typically given as a series of injections over a period of several days. The series of shots usually includes a combination of the rabies vaccine and a medication called human rabies immune globulin (HRIG), which provides immediate, short-term protection against the virus.
Contraindication: Rabies vaccine is contraindicated in people who have had a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of the vaccine or any of its components.
Doses and Administration: The usual adult oral dosage is 1mL intramuscular injection on day 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28.
