TIZANIDINE

Description

Tizanidine is a centrally acting muscle relaxant used to treat spasticity (muscle stiffness and spasms) caused by conditions such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury.

Direction of use: Tizanidine is usually taken orally with or without food, usually 2-4 times daily. Follow the directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides.

Contraindication: Tizanidine should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug.

Doses and Administration: The recommended starting dose for adults is 2 mg every 6-8 hours, up to a maximum of 36 mg/day. The dose may be increased by 2-4 mg at a time, with at least a 2-4 hour interval between dose increases.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Tizanidine include dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, and low blood pressure.

Interactions: Tizanidine may interact with other drugs such as ciprofloxacin, fluvoxamine, and cimetidine, which can increase the risk of side effects.

Warnings and Precautions: Tizanidine can cause sedation and should be used with caution in patients with a history of sleep apnea, or who are at risk for falls. It should also be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease.
