Description

Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

Direction of Use: Ketorolac is available in oral and intramuscular injection forms. It is usually taken every 6 to 8 hours as needed, but it’s important to follow the prescription and instructions given by the healthcare provider.

Contraindication: Ketorolac should not be used in people who are allergic to ketorolac or other NSAIDs, or in people who have had a history of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. It should also be avoided in people with active peptic ulcer disease, severe heart failure, and bleeding disorders.

Doses and Administration: The usual adult oral dose is 10mg every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 40mg in a 24-hour period. The intramuscular injection is usually 30mg every 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 120mg per day. Doses may vary depending on the patient’s condition and response to the medication.

Side Effects: Common side effects include stomach pain, indigestion, and nausea.

Interactions: Ketorolac may interact with other medications, including blood thinners, steroids, and aspirin. It is important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications and supplements you are taking before starting treatment with ketorolac.

Warnings and Precautions: Long-term use of ketorolac can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. It may also increase the risk of serious stomach or intestinal bleeding, particularly in the elderly. It should be used with caution in people with a history of peptic ulcer disease, kidney disease, or bleeding disorders. It should not be used for more than 5 days for the treatment of pain.
