Description

Glipizide is an oral medication that belongs to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas, which is used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. It works by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin and by making the body’s cells more sensitive to insulin.

Direction of Use: Take as directed by a healthcare professional, typically orally with a glass of water. It should be taken with a meal to reduce the risk of stomach upset.

Contraindication: It should not be used in individuals with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or in individuals with known hypersensitivity to glipizide or other sulfonylureas.

Doses and Administration: The usual starting dose is 5mg once daily. The dose may be increased by your healthcare professional based on blood sugar response. The maximum dose is 40mg per day.

Side Effects: Glipizide may cause side effects such as headache, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach upset. If these side effects are severe or persistent, consult a healthcare professional.

Interactions: Glipizide may interact with other diabetes medications, such as insulin, metformin, and other sulfonylureas. It may also interact with certain antibiotics, birth control pills, and other medications. Consult with a healthcare professional before taking glipizide if you are taking any other medications.

Warnings and Precautions: Glipizide may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken with other diabetes medications. It may also cause weight gain. Consult with a healthcare professional before use, especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.
