Description
Alfuzosin hydrochloride is a medication used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow and reduce symptoms such as difficulty urinating and frequent urination.
Direction of Use:
Alfuzosin hydrochloride is taken orally, usually once daily at the same time of day. It should be taken with or without food.
Contraindications:
Alfuzosin hydrochloride is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment and in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug.
Doses and Administration:
The recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to 10 mg twice daily if needed.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of alfuzosin hydrochloride include dizziness, headache, and nausea. Less common side effects include fainting, chest pain, and abnormal ejaculation.
Interactions:
Alfuzosin hydrochloride may interact with other medications, including blood pressure medications, blood thinners, and certain antidepressants.
Warnings and Precautions:
Patients should inform their doctor if they have any history of low blood pressure, heart disease, or liver or kidney disease. Alfuzosin hydrochloride may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing, which can cause fainting. It is also contraindicated in patients who are taking certain medications and should be used with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug.
