Description
Amlodipine (trade name Norvasc) is a medication used to lower blood pressure and prevent chest pain (angina). It belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers, which work by relaxing the smooth muscle in the walls of blood vessels, allowing them to widen and increasing blood flow. Amlodipine can also be used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain). It is usually taken once a day, with or without food. Common side effects include swelling, headache, and dizziness. It should not be used in people who are allergic to amlodipine or other calcium channel blockers.
