Description
A class of medications known as “statins,” or HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, includes atorvastatin. Low-density lipoprotein, or LDL, is the “bad” cholesterol. High-density lipoprotein, or HDL, is the “good” cholesterol. Atorvastatin is used in conjunction with diet to lower triglycerides and boost HDL levels (a type of fat in the blood). In persons with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors, atorvastatin is used to treat excessive cholesterol and to reduce their risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart issues.
