Description
HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, also known as “statins,” include atorvastatin. Low-density lipoprotein, or LDL, and high-density lipoprotein, or HDL, levels in the blood are decreased, HDL levels are raised, and triglycerides are decreased when atorvastatin is used with a healthy diet (a type of fat in the blood). In addition to treating excessive cholesterol, atorvastatin helps persons with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors reduce their risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart issues.
