Description
Hydroquinone is a skin lightening agent used to reduce the appearance of dark spots, age spots, and freckles. It works by inhibiting the production of melanin in the skin.
Direction of Use: Hydroquinone should be applied to the affected area twice daily, after cleansing the skin. Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 while using this product.
Contraindication: Hydroquinone should not be used by individuals with a known allergy to hydroquinone or any other ingredient in the product. It should also not be used on broken or irritated skin.
Doses and Administration: The recommended dose of hydroquinone is 2% for over-the-counter products, and 4% for prescription products. Higher concentrations should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Side Effects: Hydroquinone may cause mild skin irritation, redness, or dryness. If these symptoms persist or worsen, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider.
Interactions: Hydroquinone may increase the risk of sunburn when used with other photosensitizing medications. Consult a healthcare provider before using this product if you are also taking other medications.
Warnings and Precautions: Hydroquinone should not be used on the face for more than three months at a time. Long-term use may cause exogenous ochronosis, a condition characterized by thickened, discolored skin. Consult a healthcare provider if you notice any changes in your skin while using this product.
