FOLIC ACID

SKU: SHUB-FOLATE Category:

Description

Folic acid is a type of B vitamin that is essential for the proper functioning of the body. It helps the body make healthy new cells, and it is particularly important during periods of rapid cell growth and development such as pregnancy. It is used to prevent and treat folate deficiency and some types of anemia.

Direction of Use: Folic acid is usually taken orally, typically once a day, with or without food. It is important to follow the dosing instructions provided by your healthcare provider.

Contraindication: Folic acid should not be used by individuals with a known allergy to the medication or to any of its components. Also, it should be avoided in individuals with pernicious anemia, a condition in which the body is unable to properly absorb vitamin B12.

Doses and Administration: The usual adult dose of Folic acid is 400mcg daily. The dosage may be adjusted based on the patient’s response to the treatment and the underlying condition.

Side Effects: Folic acid is generally well tolerated. Some people may experience stomach upset, or allergic reactions.

Interactions: Folic acid may interact with certain medications, such as methotrexate and phenytoin. It is important to tell your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking before starting treatment with Folic acid.

Warnings and Precautions: Folic acid may mask the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency, so it’s essential to be aware of this and to consult with your healthcare provider if you suspect that you may have a deficiency of vitamin B12. Additionally, high doses of folic acid can interfere with certain lab tests, so it’s important to inform your healthcare provider and any other healthcare professional who may be administering tests that you are taking Folic acid.
