Description
METFORMIN HYDROCHLORIDE is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes by decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver and increasing the sensitivity of cells to insulin. It is typically taken orally, once or twice a day with meals.
Direction of Use:
Take metformin hydrochloride exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not change the dosage or stop taking the medication without consulting your provider.
Contraindication:
Metformin hydrochloride is contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, severe liver disease, and in patients with a history of lactic acidosis.
Doses and Administration:
The typical starting dose of metformin hydrochloride is 500mg once or twice a day with meals. Your healthcare provider may gradually increase the dosage as needed.
Side Effects:

Warnings and Precautions:
Patients taking metformin hydrochloride should have their kidney function monitored regularly. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication, as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any symptoms of lactic acidosis, such as difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or muscle weakness.
