Description

Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain, inflammation, and fever. It works by reducing the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation.

Direction of Use: Indomethacin is usually taken as directed by a healthcare provider, either as a capsule or a suppository. It can be taken with or without food, but should be taken with a full glass of water to prevent stomach upset.

Contraindication: Indomethacin should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components, or in those with active peptic ulcer disease, severe liver or kidney disease, or bleeding disorders.

Doses and Administration: The usual adult dose of indomethacin is 25-50mg three times daily or 75-100mg twice daily. The maximum daily dose is 200mg.

Side Effects: Common side effects of indomethacin include stomach upset, heartburn, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and rash. More serious side effects, such as bleeding from the stomach or intestines, kidney problems, or liver damage, are rare but may occur.

Interactions: Indomethacin may interact with other medications, including blood thinners, diuretics, and lithium. It may also increase the risk of stomach bleeding when used with alcohol or tobacco.

Warnings and Precautions: Long-term use of indomethacin may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Patients should inform their healthcare provider if they have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or other risk factors for cardiovascular events. Also, you should be in regular contact with your healthcare provider while using indomethacin.
