Description

Montelukast sodium is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called leukotriene receptor antagonists. It is used to prevent and treat asthma symptoms, as well as to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion.

Direction of Use: Montelukast sodium is usually taken orally, with or without food, once a day at the same time as directed by a healthcare provider.

Contraindication: Montelukast sodium should not be used in people who have had an allergic reaction to it.

Doses and Administration: The recommended adult and adolescent dose for the prevention of asthma symptoms is 10mg once daily in the evening. The recommended adult dose for relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis is 10mg once daily in the evening.

Side Effects: Common side effects of montelukast sodium include headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, and flu-like symptoms.

Interactions: Montelukast sodium may interact with other medications such as aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which can increase the risk of side effects.

Warnings and Precautions: Montelukast sodium should be used with caution in people with liver or kidney disease, or in people who are taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. It should also be used with caution in patients who have a history of psychological disorders or suicidal thoughts. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also avoid taking this medication.
