Description

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to decrease the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

Direction of Use: Pantoprazole is used to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It can be taken orally or given through an IV.

Contraindication: Pantoprazole is contraindicated in individuals who have a known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components.

Doses and Administration: The usual adult dose for oral treatment of GERD is 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. The usual adult dose for oral treatment of stomach ulcers is 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. The intravenous dose is 40 mg once daily.

Side Effects: Common side effects of pantoprazole include headache, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain.

Interactions: Pantoprazole may interact with other medications like warfarin, clopidogrel, and methotrexate. It is important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking.

Warnings and Precautions: Pantoprazole should be used with caution in individuals with liver disease. It should not be used in combination with other acid-reducing drugs without consulting a healthcare provider. Long-term use of pantoprazole may increase the risk of certain infections and vitamin B12 deficiency.
