Description
Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Losartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) and Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. Together, they work to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and removing excess fluid from the body.
Direction of Use:
Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide is usually taken orally once a day, with or without food.
Contraindication:
Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide should not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to the medication, anuria (lack of urine production), or hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood).
Doses and Administration:
The usual starting dose for adults is losartan 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Doses may be increased as needed and as tolerated.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide include dizziness, headache, and diarrhea.
Interactions:
Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide can interact with other medications such as lithium, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and also with some herbal supplements such as licorice.
