Description

Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Losartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) and Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. Together, they work to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and removing excess fluid from the body.

Direction of Use:

Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide is usually taken orally once a day, with or without food.

Contraindication:

Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide should not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to the medication, anuria (lack of urine production), or hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood).

Doses and Administration:

The usual starting dose for adults is losartan 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Doses may be increased as needed and as tolerated.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide include dizziness, headache, and diarrhea.

Interactions:

Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide can interact with other medications such as lithium, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and also with some herbal supplements such as licorice. It is important to inform your doctor of all medications and supplements you are taking before starting Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide.

Warnings and Precautions:

Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide can cause electrolyte imbalances, so it is important to have regular blood tests to monitor potassium levels. It should be used with caution in patients with diabetes, gout, or kidney or liver disease. It should also be used with caution in elderly patients as they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the medication.
