Description
Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a medication used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Direction of use: It is usually taken once a day, 30 minutes after a meal. It should be taken at the same time each day.
Contraindication: It should not be used in men who are allergic to tamsulosin or to any of the ingredients in the medication. It should also not be used in men who have had a history of low blood pressure or fainting during treatment with an alpha-blocker.
Doses and Administration: The usual starting dose is 0.4 mg once a day. If needed, the dose can be increased to 0.8 mg once a day after 2 to 4 weeks.
Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness, headache, and runny nose.
Interactions: Tamsulosin may interact with other medications such as blood pressure medications, antihistamines, and other alpha-blockers. It is important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are currently taking before starting treatment with tamsulosin.
Warnings and Precautions: Tamsulosin may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, which can cause fainting. It is important to avoid situations where injury could occur if you faint, such as driving or operating heavy machinery. It should also be used with caution in men with a history of low blood pressure, or in men who are taking medications that can lower blood pressure.
