Description

Carbamazepine is an anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing medication used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder.

Direction of Use:

Take carbamazepine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Contraindication:

Carbamazepine should not be used if you have certain medical conditions such as bone marrow suppression, blood disorders, or if you are allergic to it.

Doses and Administration:

The usual adult starting dose is 200 mg 2 or 3 times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and blurred vision.

Serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions, skin rash, fever, swelling, and yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Interactions:

Carbamazepine may interact with other medications, such as birth control pills, blood thinners, and antibiotics.

Warnings and Precautions:

If you have a history of suicidal thoughts or behavior, tell your doctor before taking carbamazepine.

Do not stop taking carbamazepine without first talking to your doctor.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as carbamazepine may harm an unborn baby.
